If you don't already have VoIP-capable hardware, there is only one piece of hardware you need to take advantage of Vortel’s service and low rates. (This assumes you have a high-speed Internet connection and a router with an unused port. If this is not the case or you’re not sure what you have, please click here.)

When you sign up for Vortel’s service, for 79,95** Euro (49,95** Euro with a flatrate) you can order the Vortel Starter Kit containing a Voice over IP (VoIP) adapter and a regular analogue phone to plug into your adapter. You might have an analogue phone already, in which case you can plug your existing phone into the adapter.

The Adapter

Manufactured by Linksys, a Division of Cisco, the Model No. PAP2T plugs into your home or office router or gateway. It comes with 2 standard telephone jacks for regular analogue phones (including cordless DECT phones). For a list of features and specifications please click here.

Since the adapter is connected directly to the Internet, you don’t even need a computer to use Vortel. You can take the adapter kit with you anywhere; just plug it into a high-speed Internet connection (for instance in a hotel, an office or another home) and you can use your Vortel phone (and be called) wherever you are!

IF you already have Other Hardware:

Currently Vortel’s service works best with the Cisco IP telephony adapter selected by Vortel. However, our service can also be used with other devices, including other adapters, such as the Fritzbox from AVM, broadband phones, VoIP-capable telephone systems or soft clients.

When you sign up you can simply get your Vortel SIP credentials and use them to set your own devices to use Vortel. Currently Vortel has certified the following hardware for use with our service:
1. Linksys PAP2 / PAP2T
2. AVM Fritzbox Fon

If you choose to use other uncertified hardware, we can't guarantee support for any installation problems you may encounter.
